Six months ago PetroFeed brought the power of mobile to Canada’s oil patch. The Petrofeed app, for people working in
I’ve been following the controversies surrounding mining operations in west Canada recently. One of the best strategies that PetroFeed did was to develop an app that allows people to see in real-time (an actual VISUAL ‘story’) what is actually happening in the mining facilities. This is a great move for investors, public relation dept., environmental groups and governing boards alike. Launched in Feb 2014, it is now heralded as Canada’s most downloaded business app.
A little over a year ago, Krispian Emert and I thought how cool an idea it would be if we could put together a meet up group that both supported the many dedicated UX groups in the city as well as to provide a safe, educational stage on which UX’ers and multi-disciplined designers of all levels could express themselves.
One year later, it seems as though we’ve hit a ‘vein’ as we’ve grown from a band of 5 to 300 members. It’s a reason to celebrate not just the hard work from the organizers so much as the enthusiastic, generous and supportive contributions from the members. Without their participation in what is defined as a ‘workshop, crowd-sourced’ meet up, there would be no successes and reasons to even meet.
If you are in the Vancouver area and would like to join us, our next meet up will be on September 3:
We are hosting a 15 minute talk by Krispian discussing how she helped to bring UX philosophies to a crown corporation and make it a part of their culture. Fraser Milne will also be hosting a discussion on WHAT should a UX Portfolio look.
